Agent-made video

The hard part isn’t code. It’s shots.

A post on X got 86 replies in under 24 hours with one observation: making an Agent write Remotion is easy — choosing the right shots is the craft. We packaged the 106-card shot library into a ready-to-use Agent.

TL;DR: The open-source video-shotcraft project turned shot language into 106 named, demoed recipe cards. We went one step further and packaged the whole capability into a ready-to-use Agent: give it a product URL or screenshots, get back a cinematic promo video — no Remotion install, no card reading, no timeline editing.

The slideshow problem

Anyone who has asked an AI to “make a product video” knows the failure mode: the code runs, the video renders, and the result is a slideshow with delusions of cinema.

The gap between “renders without errors” and “looks like a real promo” is not a coding gap. It is a film-language gap — which shot opens, when the camera pushes in, what deserves a beat cut, where sound design carries the transition. That was always the specialist’s craft.

What video-shotcraft ships

The project (Apache-2.0, by Vincentwei1021) delivers three things:

  1. 106 shot recipe cards — each a named, demoed camera/move pattern: spotlight-hero-card, page-waterfall-wall, before-after-slider-scrub, beat-step-list-theme-cycle. Every card has working demo source and a motion sample, so “which shot” becomes retrieval instead of taste.
  2. An accepted full-length template — a complete Remotion project whose output you can watch end to end before replacing a single asset.
  3. A six-stage workflow — product inspection, styleframes, shot mapping, asset capture, implementation, frame-by-frame final review.

The part that was still manual

Reading 106 cards, mapping them to your product, capturing real page footage, wiring sound design — still a specialist’s afternoon. The tool removed the taste barrier; it did not remove the labor.

So we packaged the whole capability into a ready-to-use Agent. Give the Product Video Agent a product URL or screenshots. It inspects the product, picks shots from the recipe library, captures real pages, animates with 2.5D camera moves, syncs pacing to the beat, designs the sound, and reviews frame by frame before delivering the MP4.

We verified the pieces before publishing: the local library has exactly 106 shot cards (the post said 104 — the library grew), the template is a complete Remotion project, and the Apache-2.0 license permits commercial use with attribution.
